An FBI investigation discovered the photographs
A man from Whitehaven has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

Richard Proud, 27, was caught after an FBI investigation in the United States, which passed on evidence to police forces in the UK.

Proud, of Herdous Road in Whitehaven appeared before magistrates in the town on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to 25 charges, including 13 of possessing indecent photographs of a child and 12 of making indecent photographs of a child.

Social reports

An FBI investigation into the Dallas-based internet child pornography programme Landslide led to Proud's arrest.

He was one of 7275 people discovered in the United Kingdom with alleged access to the site.

The case was adjourned for social enquiry reports until 31 January.

Magistrates said they were considering all their sentencing options, including possible committal to crown court for sentence.

Proud has been placed on the national Sex Offenders Register for a minimum of five years subject to review on sentence.
