First female fishery officer
Fishery officer
Helen is welcomed by deputy clerk Malcolm Sims
The North Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee has appointed its first female fishery officer.

Helen McLaren is the first woman to take the post since the committee was formed in 1890.

She said: "Although I was brought up nowhere near the sea, I have always loved being on the water.

"It is interesting work and something I have wanted to do for a long time.

"I love the east coast and have been really looking forward to starting work."

Chief fishery officer David McCandless said: "I am pleased to welcome Helen to the North Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee and am sure that she will become a valued member of staff."
