Funeral of Roy Green took place in Belfast

The funeral of the latest victim of a loyalist paramilitary feud has taken place.

Roy Green, who was a member of the Ulster Defence Association, was shot in the Ormeau area of south Belfast on 2 January.

A private, family service conducted by a local Presbyterian minister was held at the home of the victim's parents on Wednesday.

A crowd of about 100 people then followed the 32-year-old's cortege as it made its way to Roselawn Cemetery in the east of the city.

Ex-prisoner

The shooting happened near the Kimberley bar in the Sunnyside Street area, close to the Ormeau Road.

The paramilitary group, the Ulster Freedom Fighters - a cover name for the UDA - said it was behind the attack.

Mr Green was a former prisoner living in the Donegall Road area, about a mile from where he was shot.

His murder followed the shooting on Boxing Day of Jonathan Stewart, 22, who had no paramilitary links, but was a relative of one of ex-UFF leader Johnny Adair's former associates.

The latest loyalist feud began following the expulsion of Adair and John White from the UDA several months ago.

Mr White said he believed Mr Green was shot for criticising the UDA leadership.
