Six questioned after robbery attempt
Incident happened at the Ulster Bank in Market Square
Incident happened at the Ulster Bank in Market Square
Six men are still being questioned in connection with an attempted armed robbery in County Antrim.

A replica gun and a substantial amount of money were seized during the incident at a bank in Antrim town centre on Tuesday.

Police said the arrests were part of an ongoing operation against serious crime.

Armed officers shouted at shoppers to lie on the ground as they arrested the men at the Ulster Bank in Market Square.

Commotion

No-one was injured in the incident and no money was taken from a Securicor van parked outside the bank.

Some shops and businesses in the town remained closed while Army experts carried out a search of the area.

Eyewitnesses said there was a major commotion during the incident.

A security guard at a local shopping centre said the area was busy with lunchtime shoppers when four or five police cars arrived and about a dozen officers jumped out.

He said he saw a number of men pinned to the ground, at least one of them with a gun held to his back.
