Crash toddler fights for life
Police car
Police arrested a man at the scene of the accident
A toddler was left fighting for his life and two women died after a road crash in Hampshire.

All three were travelling in the same Mazda saloon car when it collided head-on with a Ford Transit van.

The boy, aged between two and three years old, was rushed to hospital where he is in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.

The 28-year-old van driver, who is from the Wickham area, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The accident happened on the B2177 Southwick road at 1039 GMT on Tuesday.

The road remained closed to motorists for several hours as accident investigators examined the scene.

The police have not yet formally established the identities of the two women nor their relationship to the child.

Detectives have appealed for any witnesses who saw the vehicles before the accident to contact Fareham police.
