Former council head faces perjury trial
Doncaster Magistrates' Court
Mr Dainty councillor will face trial later this month
The former Conservative leader on Doncaster Council will stand trial for perjury later this month.

John Dainty, 60, appeared at Doncaster Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

His case was adjourned until 14 January when Mr Dainty will appear at Sheffield Crown Court.

Mr Dainty, who now lives at Eldon Green, Tusford, York, spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared before magistrates.

He was granted unconditional bail.

In March 2002 Mr Dainty was found not guilty in a case relating to alleged corruption and which followed a police investigation into the financial affairs of Doncaster Council.

The perjury charge relates to statements made as a witness between 12 and 16 February, 2002.
