Undertakers may strike over pay
Funeral workers in Colchester are returning to the negotiating table in their pay dispute with bosses.
GMB union leaders told BBC Radio Essex that they will meet with employers at the Colchester Co-operative Society to try and avert a planned strike. Undertakers warned that a strike could disrupt funerals. Workers said they were unhappy with a 3% pay rise offer from employers. Lift closure Both lifts at Chelmsford rail station will be closed for three months for essential maintenance work. The move has led to complaints from disabled people. However, First Great Eastern says it is looking into alternatives to minimise problems for passengers. The lifts closed on Sunday.
Police target bogus callers Police in Essex are beginning a special operation to tackle bogus callers. Operation Grizzly Bear will target burglars who pose as utility workers to get into homes. Police will also look into complaints from people who have been presented with inflated bills for work carried out. Detective Chief Inspector Bob Seals said the fight against bogus callers was a top priority. |
