Mother raises £22,000 for US treatment
Jeannie Harrison and her two daughters
A Cambridgeshire mother with motor neurone disease has raised thousands of pounds to pay for treatment in America.
Jeannie Harrison, 24, who has two little girls aged two and eight, needs the money for stem cell treatment in the USA. In just six weeks Jeannie and her family, who live in Chatteris, managed to raise £22,000 to pay for her for treatment in Atlanta, Georgia. "We never thought we would raise this money in time such a short space of time, so it is a dream come true," she said. More time Most of the cash was raised by family and friends, but the family was also helped by BBC Look East viewers. One gave £1,000 to the fund, another paid for the family's flights - their first trip abroad. "The treatment could make things a lot better for her," said her partner Darren Stone. "She may be able to walk properly again. Whatever effects the treatment has, it's a bonus." Jeannie, whose condition was diagnosed two years ago, is undeterred by the thought that the treatment is experimental. She is willing to try anything that might give her more time with her children.
