Wallaby gives police runaround
A wallaby
Wallabies can run as fast as hares
Police in Worcestershire struggled to apprehend an unusual suspect - a wallaby on the run in the countryside.

Officers from Kidderminster and Bewdley gave chase to the animal, which is the size of a small kangaroo and can move as fast as a hare.

The plucky marsupial had been spotted by a driver on Bewdley Hill early on Sunday evening.

Police stopped the traffic for half an hour while they tried to capture the wallaby, eventually cornering it at the entrance to West Midlands Safari Park.

Lucky escape

The animal was then sedated and taken to a safe place.

The RSPCA says the wallaby was lucky to escape injury considering how long it was loose on the road.

Although the wallaby was captured outside West Midlands Safari Park, a spokesperson for the attraction said the animal was not theirs.

Attempts are now being made to find out who does own the animal.
