Man remanded over abbey damage
Waltham Abbey
Waltham Abbey was damaged last Friday
A man has appeared before magistrates accused of causing damage estimated at £200,000 to Waltham Abbey in Essex.

Martin Miles, 47, from the town of Waltham Abbey, was remanded in custody by magistrates in Harlow.

He faces 11 charges relating to the incident last Friday, including wounding with intent, assault, affray, causing criminal damage to cars and cafe tables, and possessing an axe.

He did not enter pleas to any of the charges or apply for bail.

He will appear before Chelmsford Crown Court on 10 January.
