Tourist linked with tent body
South Wales Police graphic
Police have confirmed that the body of a man found dead in a tent on a mountainside near Merthyr Tydfil is understood to be a German tourist.

The 35-year-old man was reported missing from his London home in July by his flatmate.

Investigating officers have travelled to London to check dental records and hope to positively identify the body in the next few days.

A South Wales Police inquiry was launched after the discovery of human remains by a member of the public walking his dog on a hill overlooking Troedyrhiw on Friday.

Post-mortem

Personal documentation found inside the semi-concealed tent, which was camouflaged and would have been missed by walkers, has led officers to believe that the body may be that of the missing man.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and has established that no weapons were used against the man.

But the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

The mountainside on which the body was found is close to the border of the Brecon Beacons National Park - an area which is popular with walkers.

Police are appealing for help in the investigation.

Anyone with information can contact police in Merthyr on 01685 722541.
