Operator 'ignored' woman's screams
Caroline Stuttle
Caroline had been backpacking in Australia
An Australian police radio operator has been sacked after he was accused of ignoring a report of a woman screaming on the night a British backpacker was killed.

Caroline Stuttle, 19, from York, died after she was pushed from a bridge in Bundaberg, Queensland.

Around the time of her death last April, a caller had phoned the emergency services to say she had heard a woman's scream and the figure of a man looking over the railings of a bridge.

The operator who took the call allegedly did not pass the information on to police.

Australian police said the man was dismissed following an internal investigation by the Police Ethical Standards Commission.

Despite more than 150 men being DNA tested, no-one has been arrested in connection with Caroline's death.
