Students bailed after airbase protest
Mildenhall planes have taken part in major conflicts
Anti-war protestors who broke into a US airbase in Suffolk have been released on bail by Ministry of Defence Police.
An MoD Police spokesman said the 15 demonstrators, believed to be students from the Cambridge area, had cut through the perimeter fence of RAF Mildenhall on Sunday morning. They were arrested and taken to police stations around Suffolk, where they were questioned until the late afternoon on suspicion of causing criminal damage. The spokesman said the protestors had not caused any damage within the base itself. Major conflicts He said they were detained by US servicemen very quickly, and arrested a short while later by MoD Police. The protestors have to report back to police in 21 days when they will learn if they will be charged. The US airbases at RAF Mildenhall and neighbouring Lakenheath are regular targets for peace protestors. Planes from both bases have featured in many major conflicts in recent years.
