Police searching for a 74-year-old missing for more than 24 hours in freezing conditions have recovered a woman's body from a pond.

The search for pensioner Evelyn Graham has been called off after police divers found the body at 1300 GMT on Sunday.

The identity of the woman has not been released but police confirmed that the search for the pensioner had been cancelled following the discovery.

Mrs Graham was reported missing by her family on Saturday after she did not return to her home in Manton, near Richmond, in North Yorkshire, from a lunchtime walk.

Police dog units, backed by the force air support unit and search and rescue teams searched the area.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "An underwater search team recovered a female body from a pond.

"The body has yet to be identified and there are no suspicious circumstances."
