Lithuania presidential race 'close'
Votes are being counted in the run-off second round of Lithuania's presidential election.

The contest is between the incumbent Lithuanian President, Valdas Adamkus, and a former prime minister, Rolandas Paksas.

In the first round, Mr Adamkus emerged with a clear lead, and has been widely tipped to regain the presidency.

But first exit polls suggest the contest might be much closer than previously thought, and put the two contenders virtually neck and neck.

Voting got off to a slow start because of extremely cold weather, and correspondents say that although it picked up later, turnout is not expected to be high.
