Education privatisation plan rejected
The council rejected transferring staff
Proposals to privatise education support services in Essex have been rejected.
Essex County Council looked at transferring up to 1,700 of its staff to a private company. But the scheme was rejected by a cabinet meeting of the council on Monday. Teaching union the NASUWT and public service union Unison had warned that school services would have suffered had this been approved. The unions also warned that teachers would have looked for work elsewhere if working conditions had changed.
