In brief: Baby girl for Bratt
Film star couple Benjamin Bratt and Talisa Soto are celebrating the birth of their first child, Sophia Rosalinda.
The baby was born on 6 December, weighing seven pounds, a spokesman for the couple said. Soto married Bratt in April this year in San Francisco after meeting him on the set of the movie Pinero. Bratt is best known for roles in TV series Law and Order and movies Miss Congeniality, and for a past relationship with Julia Roberts.
Fonda travels to Israel for peace Actress Jane Fonda is to make a three-day visit to Israel to promote peace in the region. Fonda, who is a well known campaigner, will travel with a delegation which works for the protection of women. The 65-year-old star will also meet with representatives of the Jerusalem Center for Women. Recently, Fonda joined Sean Penn in condemning US President George W. Bush's threat to invade Iraq in a letter published in the Los Angeles Times and New York Times.
Trevi faces Mexico return Mexican singer Gloria Trevi will be extradited from Brazil to her native county at the end of the week to face charges of kidnapping and the corruption of minors. Her transfer will almost three years of legal attempts by Trevi to fight the extradition. The singer will be accompanies by her 10-month-old son who was conceived while she was in jail. Trevi said she was raped by a police officer while in jail but genetic tests later confirmed her managed who is also awaiting extradition on similar charges, was the father.
Acclaimed set designer dies Maria Bjornson, a set and costume designer on the hit musical The Phantom of the Opera, has died at age 53, according to reports. She was found dead at her London home, The Times and the Guardian newspapers reported Monday. No cause of death was given. She worked for the Welsh National Opera and its English and Scottish counterparts, was involved with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Ballet. Her work on the Phantom earned her international acclaim and two Tony awards.
Prinze Jr heads West Scooby Doo star Freddie Prinze Jr is to make his West End stage debut in January. The actor, married to Buffy The Vampire Slayer heroine Sarah Michelle Gellar, will play one of the lead roles in This Is Our Youth. Prinze follows in the footsteps of other stars such as Matt Damon and Anna Paquin in the show at London's Garrick Theatre. He joins the cast on 16 January, starring alongside Chris Klein, of the American Pie movies and Heather Burns from Miss Congeniality and You've Got Mail.
Star's pool tragedy home 'for sale' Rock musician Tommy Lee has reportedly put his home up for sale, almost a year and a half after a young boy drowned in his pool. The former Motley Crue drummer has listed the home in Malibu, California, for $3m (£1.9m), according to the Los Angeles Times. In July 2001, a four-year-old boy accidentally drowned in Lee's pool during a birthday party. The former husband of actress Pamela Anderson wanted to sell his home to buy a new one with his fiancée, singer and dancer Mayte Garcia, the paper reported.
Bon Jovi to bail out swimming fan Jon Bon Jovi says he will pay any fine imposed on a fan who plunged into Sydney Harbour and swam to a floating stage where he was performing. The 32-year-old man faces being fined by police after the incident during a free concert in the city's Darling Harbour on Friday. He received a huge ovation from the 20,000-strong crowd after being hauled out of the water by his idol. Bon Jovi recently launched their new album, Bounce, in Australia.
