Primary schools under review
Children's feet
The council says parents will be consulted
Primary schools in part of Nottingham are facing major reorganisation because of a predicted surplus of places.

The city council is looking at how to make sure the best use is made of resources in the Meadows area.

This has prompted some parents to voice concerns they could lose out.

But the council say parents will be fully consulted before any changes are made.

Good education

There are five primary schools in the Meadows which have all had mixed fortunes in recent years.

The education authority says there will be too many surplus places within the next few years.

Parents have said any possible closures would lead to disruption for their children.

But the city council's education chairman, Jon Collins, says there is no hidden agenda: "We actually have good primary education in Nottingham.

Union approval

"Certainly we have rapidly improving primary education and we want to make sure that rate of improvement is kept up.

"This review is designed to keep that trend going."

The National Union of Teachers says it does not want to see half-empty schools and so supports a thorough assessment of the primary system in the Meadows.

The five schools involved are Arkwright, Bosworth, the Meadows, Welbeck and Trent Bridge.
