Turning the Tables: the results

The twelve judges for The Westminster Hour's assessment of the 16 main departments of central government said none was excellent, but one was poor. Five were rated good, five fair and five weak.

  • Excellent: None

  • Good: Ministry of Defence, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Department for International Development, Northern Ireland Office, HM Treasury (rated best)

  • Fair: Cabinet Office/Prime Minister's Office, Department of Health, Lord Chancellor's Department, Department of Trade and Industry, Department for Work and Pensions

  • Weak: Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Department for Education and Skills, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Home Office

  • Poor: Department for Transport

Our panel of experts had to judge the 16 ministries in four categories. Their votes were then totalled to produce the overall ratings, above. Here are the detailed results:
