Man left to die on motorway
M1 motorway
Police found vehicle debris at the scene
Police have launched an inquiry into a hit-and-run accident after a man was left for dead on a grass verge beside the M1 motorway.

A lorry driver spotted the unidentified man's body at junction 19 in Northamptonshire on Sunday.

He told police that he saw the body of a white man as he drove past just after 0830 GMT.

After the body was discovered, investigators took over the scene near the M6 and A14 interchange and closed one carriageway for several hours.

Debris found

A police spokesman said: "At this stage we do not know the identity of the victim and a post-mortem examination is being carried out on his body at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

"We hope that will give us a clue to the cause of his death."

Police said they will examine vehicle debris found at the scene to determine how the man died.

Police have asked that anyone who saw someone walking southbound on the M1 near junction 19 Saturday night or Sunday morning to come forward.
