Teenagers held over landmark fire

Nearly 100 firefighters were called to tackle the flames

Four youngsters have been arrested following a huge fire at a Leicester landmark.

The youths aged between 12 and 14 were taken into custody on Friday night a day after the former bingo hall and cinema in Fullhurst Road in Braunstone was destroyed.

Police said evidence points to the fire starting as a result of a "deliberate and malicious action".

One boy was released without charge. The other three have been released on bail while police investigate further.

Restaurant evacuated

Almost 100 firefighters were called to the disused Roxy Bingo and Social Club on Fullhurst Avenue at around 2140 GMT on Thursday.

Fire engines were called in from all over the county to help and nearby homes and a fast food restaurant had to be evacuated.

The art deco building was opened as a cinema in the 1930s.

It was later used as a bingo hall and closed in March 2000.
