Dog attack woman undergoes surgery
Dogs in dog warden van
Four dogs were seized after the attack
A Devon woman who was attacked when two Staffordshire bull terriers escaped from a garden has undergone surgery.

The 49-year-old was walking her dog in Nelson Drive in Exmouth on Friday morning when her pet was attacked by the two Staffordshires.

The dogs then turned on the woman, leaving her with serious facial and lower body injuries.

She is described as being in a "stable" condition after surgery at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital at Wonford.

Dogs seized

Two elderly people who went to the woman's aid were also bitten.

A 60-year-old woman suffered a finger wound, and a 68-year-old man suffered injuries to his face and hands.

They have since been discharged from hospital.

The two bull terriers were among four later seized by police and taken to kennels.

Animal examined

It followed the issuing of a warrant under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

One of the dogs involved in the attack was injured when another member of the public hit it with a tool to drive it away.

That animal has been examined by a veterinary surgeon, said the police.

Officers have taken statements about the incident.

They are to interview the owner of the bull terriers.
