Police hunt bank raiders
Strathclyde Police HQ
Police have appealed for witnesses
Police in Lanarkshire are hunting three armed robbers who held up a security van in Uddingston on Friday evening and escaped with more than £50,000.

The cash was being delivered to the Bank of Scotland branch in Main Street, Uddingston, when an armed man threatened a security guard and forced him to the ground.

Two other men demanded cash from a second guard who was sitting in the rear of a security van at about 1950 GMT on Friday.

A red car the robbers used to make their escape was later found abandoned in the Bothwell Park Industrial Estate.

'Badly shaken'

Detective Sergeant Adam Kerr said: "Both security guards were left very badly shaken but otherwise uninjured as a result of the robbery.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Main Street, Uddingston or Bellshill Road, before or after the robbery.

"We are also anxious to trace a dark coloured car seen travelling north at high speed, shortly after the robbery, on the M74 between Uddingston and Maryville."

Anyone with information should call Hamilton CID on 01698 483300 or CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.
