Appeal following 'horrific rape'
Scene of attack
The area was cordoned off after the attack
Police have appealed for information following what they described as the "horrific" rape of a teenage girl in County Down.

The 17-year-old was assaulted by two men in Banbridge in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She left her mother's home and was walking along Reilly Street towards her boyfriend's home when two men shouted to her.

As she passed them, she was pulled from behind into a path towards flats at Victoria Place, where the rape took place.
PSNI Inspector Robin Foster
Inspector Robin Foster described the attack

Police inspector Robin Foster said the young girl suffered an horrendous ordeal.

"Just as she passed them she was grabbed from behind and dragged into that area of trees behind me," he said.

"One of the men held her and the other raped her."

She phoned the police once she reached her boyfriend's house and managed to give them a detailed description of her attackers.

Both were in their late teens or early 20s and were wearing dark suits, with white shirts and ties.

Police have been examining the scene and have appealed to the public for help in tracking down the attackers.

They believe the men may have been at a Christmas function in Banbridge and have appealed for anyone who may be able to identify them to get in touch.
