Son charged with hammer attack

The couple were found at their Merseyside house
A 25-year-old man has been charged with a hammer attack on his parents at their Merseyside home.

John O'Hare died and his wife Diane was critically injured in the alleged attack at their home in Birch Close, Oxton, on Wednesday.

The couple's son, trainee chef Mark O'Hare, was arrested on Thursday and has now been charged with murder and attempted murder.

He will appear before Wirral magistrates on Saturday.

Critical

The couple's 20-year-old son was also arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, but was released on Friday on police bail, pending further inquiries.

During the alleged attack, Mr Hare, a 51-year-old a driving instructor, was battered to death with a claw hammer.

His wife, aged 44, was left in a critical condition.
