Man fleeing drug raid impaled
Generic police tape
Police raided the man's home
A suspected criminal has died after being impaled on iron railings

He fell from a second floor window as he fled a drugs raid.

Metropolitan Police officers had gone to the man's home in Barking, Essex, as part of an operation against dealers.

When they arrived he smashed a window in the second floor flat and then fell 40 feet on to the railings.

An air ambulance landed nearby as attempts were made to save the impaled man, who has not been named but is in his late 20s.

He was pronounced dead at 1400 GMT on Thursday, about 30 minutes after the raid.

An investigation into the death is being supervised by the Police Complaints Authority.
