The house in Oxton
The couple were found at their house in Oxton
Two brothers are being questioned by detectives about the murder of their father and the attempted murder of their mother.

Merseyside police arrested Mark O'Hare on Thursday after his 51-year-old father John was found dead at the family home in Oxton in birkenhead.

His 20-year-old brother, who has not been named, was arrested on Friday morning.

Their 44-year-old mother, Diane, remains in a critical condition at Walton Neurological Centre, following the attack which took place on 13 December.

Police say the couple had been attacked with a hammer.

Neighbours have spoken of their shock at the driving instructor's death, describing him and his wife as "a lovely couple".

Mark O'Hare was arrested after a car being followed by police crashed into a wall in Storeton Road, Birkenhead.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said there had been a heavy police presence in the town searching for the 25-year-old who lives in Birmingham.

The O'Hares are believed to have three sons.
