Jury refused trip to murder scene
Kevin Jackson with his two sons
Kevin Jackson left behind two young sons
The judge in the trial of three people accused of murdering a man who disturbed them as they tried to steal a car, has refused a request from the jury to visit the scene of the attack.

The jury at Leeds Crown Court asked Mr Justice Jackson to allow them to be taken to Skircoat Green in Halifax where Kevin Jackson was attacked with a screwdriver on 30 December 2001.

During a four-week trial they have been told how Mr Jackson was assaulted after chasing a group of men who were trying to steal his father-in-law's Toyota from outside his home.

The engineer and father of two young sons died in hospital on New Year's Day.

New evidence

Rashad Zaman, Rangzaib Akhtar and Raees Khan all deny murdering Mr Jackson.

They are also charged with a series of other offences.

The judge said for the jury to visit the scene of the crime would constitute new evidence which cannot be allowed to be put before them once they have retired.

The jury will continue its deliberations on Monday.
