Man dies in serious accident
Police erected tarpaulin around the vehicle
Police erected tarpaulin around the vehicle
A man has died in a serious road accident near Holywood in County Down.

It happened at about 0630 GMT on Friday on the main Bangor to Belfast Road.

The dual-carriageway was closed citybound and traffic was diverted for a time through Holywood.

The road is one of the busiest commuter routes into Belfast and the accident had a major effect on morning traffic.

A single car was involved in the accident and came to rest in a ditch at the side of the A2, close to Palace Barracks. The vehicle is badly burnt.

Police erected tarpaulin around the vehicle.

They have appealed to any witnesses to come forward.
