Fake cash
Counterfeit crime is thriving
Crooked Britain: Fake Cash was broadcast on BBC Two on Tuesday, 21 January 2003.
For the first time on television a criminal gang involved in the counterfeiting of currency is exposed. Using covert camera techniques to infiltrate the gang, the criminals every move is taped to reveal their sophisticated and highly successful counterfeiting techniques. Counterfeiting of currency is a major concern with £100m of fake notes estimated to be in circulation. Fake Cash is the result of an eight-month investigation by the BBC. The result is a detailed portrait of a counterfeiting gang, one of a growing number around the world which regularly beat bank security measures and flood world markets with everything from fake pounds to euros and dollars.
