Dumped car mystery explained
Toyota vehicle
The Toyota Picnic was left by mistake
The mystery of a car that blocked a Gloucester man's garage for three days has been resolved.

The car's owners had simply parked in the wrong place and left to go on a four day holiday.

Police had told Roger Windo, 55, that he risked breaking the law if he forced his way into the Toyota Picnic left on his drive since Sunday morning.

The family, who wish to remain anonymous, thought they was leaving the car in the drive of a friend - one of Mr Windo's neighbours.

I can understand how it happened

One of the family, Jill, said the mistake had occurred early in the morning when they were parking to go on holiday to Disneyland.

She said: "We thought we were parking in our friend's house, who said we could park there while we were away. But it appears it was the house next door.

"My friend told me to park right up close to the garage as they never use it."

Public obstruction

Mr Windo, a businessman, was then unable to get into his own garage for several days and warned by the police that he could face prosecution if he tried to break into the vehicle to move it.

He was telephoned on Thursday morning by an apologetic Jill.

Mr Windo said: "It is totally bizarre and very annoying, but I think that is the end of this.

"I can understand how it happened."

Neither the police nor Gloucester City Council had been able to help because the T-reg Toyota was not causing a public obstruction.
