Man's body found by cliff
The body of a man has been discovered at the bottom of a cliff on the Isle of Wight.

A passer-by alerted police after finding the man's body slumped at the foot of Shanklin Cliff at about 1200 GMT on Saturday.

A post mortem examination is to be carried out on the body on Monday morning.

Police spokeswoman Antonia Weakes said: "At this time there are no suspicious circumstances. No formal identification of the body has been made."


Woman rescued by firefighters

Firefighters in breathing gear have rescued a woman trapped in a smoke-filled walkway.

Smoke billowed into the passage after a fire broke out in rubbish in a shed in the grounds of Southsea station in Portsmouth.

A fire engine was called to the blaze at Albert Court on Tottenham Road at 0052 GMT on Sunday.

A Hampshire Fire Service spokesman said: "The fire involved rubbish in a shed and one female was rescued from smoke along a covered walkway."


Guests escape hotel sauna fire

A hotel in Bournemouth was evacuated after a fire broke out in its sauna.

It is thought wood in the roof area of the Grosvenor Hotel's sauna overheated and caught fire shortly after 2200 GMT on Wednesday.

Firefighters carried out a search of the hotel to make sure all the guests had left the building.


Police artist portrays Jane Austen

A new portrait of Jane Austen drawn by an artist from the region has been unveiled.

Artist Melissa Dring, from Hampshire, usually works as a police forensic illustrator, creating reconstructions and court pictures.

She has been using forensic evidence to try to create as accurate a picture as possible of the author who lived at Chawton in East Hampshire.

Ms Dring said she wanted to bring Jane Austen's character to life in the work.
