Kama Sutra posters ordered down
A London council has threatened legal action against a men's magazine after it put up posters featuring well-known people in Kama Sutra positions.
One of the posters publicising Loaded is a cartoon drawing of former US president Bill Clinton naked and smoking a cigar while a woman performs a sex act on him. Camden Council said it had found more than 300 adverts in its area for the magazine, which is promoting a pull-out section about the Kama Sutra. The council wrote to Loaded's publishers, IPC Media, warning that the pictures had been put up illegally and gave the firm until Thursday to take them down.
Janine Mantle, a spokeswoman for Camden Council, said: "We have told them fly-posting is illegal but we were also concerned the posters are quite graphic, showing sexual acts which we considered to be lewd. "Fly-posting is a big problem in the borough. It costs £200,000 a year to clean them away." Another advert is a drawing of Margaret Thatcher topless alongside Charlie Chaplin. All the offending parts of the posters are covered with a red strip and the words: "Loaded Kama Sutra on sale now!" The editor of Loaded, Scott Manson, said: "All the posters were going to be removed in seven days anyway, so this would not have been left to the local council's responsibility. "However, following the complaints in Camden they are being removed over the next 48 hours."
