Heroin user jailed for shaking toddler
Court graphic
A babysitter who shook a crying toddler has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Christopher Forbes, 28, was influenced by heroin when he lost his temper and harmed the two-year-old girl.

The toddler was treated for bruises to her head and back and had blood on her ears.

Forbes was looking after the girl for his child-minding partner, Kyra Woodward, at her home in Derby in July last year.

'Ashamed'

Derby Crown Court heard police were informed when the youngster's mother noticed the injuries shortly after collecting her.

Prosecutor Andrew Willetts said Forbes told police he lost his temper because she would not stop crying.

The court heard he also had to be sentenced for two house burglaries in February this year.

Defence lawyer Evelyn Bugeja said Forbes was under the influence of heroin when he assaulted the child and was now "ashamed" of what he had done.

Forbes had pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and two charges of burglary.
