Suspected thief survives 40-foot fall
Ambulance
The man was taken to hospital after his fall
A suspected thief is being treated in hospital after plummeting 40 feet from a window.

The 32-year-old man broke his wrists and may have fractured his skull in the fall.

The incident occurred at a building in Booth Street, Ripley, Derbyshire.

Police said the man was challenged by staff and fell as he attempted to exit through the window.

'Lost grip'

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "The man ran upstairs to a high level window and reached out to a wall.

"It is believed that he then lost his grip and fell to the ground, landing on his head.

"He suffered two broken wrists, facial injuries and a suspected skull fracture."

Police said that the man, from Langley Mill, Derbyshire, was escorted by officers to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary following the incident at about 1600 on Tuesday.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and was granted police bail.
