Bride knifed husband with wedding gift
Cardiff Crown Court
Butler was convicted at Cardiff Crown Court
A bride has been convicted of stabbing her husband with a knife which had been given to the couple as a wedding present.

Barmaid Natalie Butler, 20, attacked her 22-year-old husband Shaun just 10 weeks after the couple married.

The pair, from Talbot Green near Pontypridd, south Wales, rowed after Butler returned from a night out with friend and then took a carving knife from the block given as a gift.

I was frightened and did not know what he was going to do, so I went into the kitchen and took the knife from the block

Natalie Butler
Mr Butler, a delivery driver, told Cardiff Crown Court he was woken up when she returned and began attacking him.

He said she jumped on the bed and started punching him.

Mr Butler claimed his wife told him she had slept with his best friend.

'Two boys'

"She told me she had two boys on the go, and had also been with my best mate," he said.

"She caught me in the chest, then stabbed me in the right leg, then again on my arm.

"I lifted the sleeve of my top and blood squirted everywhere. She was shouting: 'Look what you made me do.'

Mr Butler was rushed to hospital and needed an operation to repair severed tendons in his arm.

'Self-defence'

Butler denied wounding and claimed she acted in self-defence following the row.

However, she was found guilty, then cleared of wounding with intent.

She said: "I could see he was angry; I was frightened and did not know what he was going to do, so I went into the kitchen and took the knife from the block."

The couple have a two-year-old child.

Butler was remanded on bail to be sentenced in the New Year.
