Students escape to the US

Fancy dress was optional
Students have travelled as far afield as Arizona in a sponsored jailbreak for the University of Bristol's Raise and Give (RAG) fund.

Tom Archer and Jenny White, both 19-year-old undergraduates, travelled over 5,000 miles to the Grand Canyon in just 36 hours.

Other students reached exotic destination like Bahrain, Barcelona and Prague, with one group bumping into easyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou who funded them to Athens.

The university's RAG chair, Alex Durbidge, says the event should have raised around £5,000.

It has been a record-breaking year

Eighty penniless students broke out of Bridewell Police Station on Saturday, and between them travelled over 20,000 miles for charity.

Some undertook the task in fancy dress, ranging from prison overalls to Darth Vader outfits.

Hogmanay trip

One group managed to hitch a lift with football club Arsenal's coach - providing they cleaned up afterwards.

Alex Durbidge said: "It has been a record-breaking year.

"It is events such as this that allowed RAG to donate more than £200,000 to charities over the last three years."

The next RAG event is a trip to Edinburgh for Hogmanay to collect money for Cancer Research UK.
