'I name this child Lexus'

Adrian Thompson's daughters are named after cars
A garage owner is ensuring his love of cars is passed on down the family - by naming his daughters after luxury motors.

Car crazy Adrian Thompson, from Yate, near Bristol, chose the name Mercedes - his favourite make - for his eldest daughter, who is now five.

And when his fiancee Miranda Sutton became pregnant again the pair thought through a whole fleet of vehicles before coming up with a suitable name.

Baby Lexus was born at Southmead Hospital in Bristol last week.

Fleet of vehicles

The 30-year-old from Yate, near Bristol, said: "When we were expecting our first child I'd recently had a Mercedes and loved it but we weren't set on a name.

"When she was born she was such a cute little thing and we thought it was a beautiful name for a beautiful girl."

So when the couple discovered another baby was on the way, they decided to look for inspiration in the same place - the garage.

Mr Thompson said: "When Miranda became pregnant again we were toying with different names, including car names.

More mainstream

"We had all the jokes - Skoda was suggested and Portia - but then we heard Alexis and thought of Lexus.

"They are both prestige, high quality cars and names and suit the girls."

Mr Thompson, who sells luxury and sports cars at Performance Direct in Yate said he would find using car names for boys more troublesome.

He said: "Things like Austin and Martin are a bit mainstream. I am happy with my girls."
