Corby link road approved
The government aims to improve traffic flow
The government has approved a new link road for Corby as part of a £5.5bn plan to improve Britain's road network.
Northamptonshire will receive £12.7m to build a new four-kilometre single carriageway to the south and east of Corby. The Department for Transport announced that the link between the A6003 and the A43 is expected to improve access to the town and deliver regeneration benefits Northamptonshire's county council expects roadwork to begin on site in April 2006 with the road opening to traffic by the end of 2007. One goal of local campaigners has been the reduction of the number of lorries travelling through villages like Geddington. An A43 Geddington bypass proposal had been dropped from the national road improvements programme in 1998. Transport Secretary Alistair Darling announced the transport package to the Commons on Tuesday.
