Police hope CCTV footage of a street robbery in Coventry could help catch the culprits.

Three youths cornered the victim, punched him and threatened him with a knife.

The man was on his way to work when he was attacked at 0530 GMT on 7 December in Hertford Street.

The three youths, aged about 18, then chased him and he was forced to hand over his personal stereo.

Police sergeant Ian Knowles said: "It just beggars belief that, for such small rewards, three people will go to such lengths and arm themselves with a knife to attack someone in this way.

"It's unusual for this type of crime to occur in the morning and we would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward."

Sergeant Knowles said the man suffered bruising and cuts to his face.

He said over the past year street robberies had fallen by a quarter and one in every three offenders were being caught.
