The US and us
Simon Gompertz in New York
Simon reports from New York
It has been a turbulent year for the US economy and financial markets.

Working on the principle that what happens over there eventually happens over here, Simon's been to New York to find out what the latest business and personal finance developments are.

What US investors think - it's been a rough ride for investors in the US markets. But how hopeful are they for the future? Simon investigates.

Pensions US style - Working Lunch viewer Graham Reed asked us what happens with pensions in the States. They're having similar problems to us, but Simon's found that for some people over there, there is extra protection.

Back to school - Many US investors have been stung by the falls on the stock markets. Some are now going back to school to learn how to invest in stocks and shares. Simon went along too.

Phillips bid for success - It's not often you get a shake-up in the multi-million pound art market, but in the US one of the small auctioneers, Phillips, is trying to knock Sotheby's and Christie's off their perches.

Bank branch closures - We're familiar with the High Street banks closing their branches here, but in the US campaigners are challenging the decisions there with some success.

Blueprint for the future - After scandals like Enron and WorldCom, has enough been done to stop the same thing happening again? Simon investigates.
