Cameras to catch dumpers
New cameras are set to capture people who dump rubbish in the wrong place this Christmas.

CCTV cameras are being fitted outside recycling centres in Oxfordshire to deter people from leaving waste when they are closed.

Five tonnes of rubbish was left at the gates of Alkerton recycling centre in North Oxfordshire when it shut for just three days in 2001.

This year footage from the new digital cameras will be studied and offenders prosecuted by the Environment Agency.

More hospital beds for winter

Oxfordshire's hospitals could be given more beds to help cope with extra demand during the winter period.

Health officials are considering providing an extra 46 spaces across the county - despite being nearly £11m overspent already this year.

Temporary staff are a major reason for the overspend and hospital bosses are to decide whether they can afford to recruit enough extra workers to cover the new beds.

Drivers put children at risk

Police officers are patrolling an Oxfordshire village after complaints that motorists ignoring the local lollipop lady are putting children's lives at risk.

Speed traps have been set up in Kirtlington to catch those who break the 30 mph limit.

The officers are also watching for motorists who ignore the directions of the lollipop lady as she helps children to the local primary school.
