Two killed by falling tree
Officers believe the tree was felled by a gust of wind
Two people have died after part of a tree fell on their car in south-west London.
Police and fire crews were called to Trinity Road in Wandsworth at 2100 GMT on Monday. They found a man and a woman trapped inside a BMW estate car, which had caught fire. Firefighters put out the blaze and cut the couple free from the vehicle but they were pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe a large gust of wind caused a 15ft section of the tree to fall. No other vehicle was involved. The victims, both believed to be in their 20s, have not yet been named. A post mortem examination will be carried out at St George's Hospital, Tooting, south London, on Wednesday. |
