Pensioner dies after fire
Three Green Goddesses put out the fire
A pensioner who was rescued from a fire during the second firefighter's strike has died in hospital.
Ken Jordan, aged 78, suffered extensive burns in the fire at his home in George Road, Halesowen on 25 November. Neighbours entered the flat to rescue the pensioner who was taken to Selly Oak Hospital, in Birmingham, where he died on Saturday. Fire service spokesman Ian McWilliam said Mr Jordan's neighbours used a fire extinguisher to try and put the fire out. Inquest opens Mr McWilliam said neighbours had rescued the pensioner from his flat just before three Green Goddesses and a Red Goddess arrived at the scene. An inquest into his death is expected to open later this week. Mr McWilliam is the second person from the town to die following a fire during the two strikes. Evan John Davies, 86, was rescued from his third floor flat and taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley but later died on 14 November. |
