Ibiza body is missing Briton
Jeffrey Hodgson and his parents
Jeffrey Hodgson wandered off outside his hotel
A body found on the Spanish island of Ibiza has been confirmed as that of British holidaymaker Jeffrey Hodgson.

DNA tests confirmed the remains were those of the 38-year-old from Greater Manchester.

He disappeared last year while with his parents on holiday.

Mr Hodgson, who had a mental age of eight, went missing while his parents, of Stockport, were checking into a hotel at Cala Llonga in July 2001.

We always hoped we would be able to bring Jeffrey back alive

Extensive searches were made on the island and on the Spanish mainland.

After more than a dozen trips to the island by his parents, Mr Hodgson's body was found in October near cliffs close to Cala Llonga.

On Friday, a Foreign Office spokesman said the cause of Mr Hodgson's death had not been confirmed.

His parents Beryl and Derek were too upset to talk about the tragedy, but paid tribute to Mr Hodgson in a statement.

They said: "The news that Jeffrey's body has been found is the thing we have been dreading most since he went missing.

"We are now planning to go out to Ibiza to bring Jeffrey back home to Stockport.

"We always hoped we would be able to bring Jeffrey back alive, but all we can do now is bring him home to his family and friends, who loved him so much.

"Jeffrey had a fantastic life, he was always laughing and joking and had so many friends and so much freedom."
