Brewery offers voluntary redundancies
The firm says it is investing in its Northampton centre
The Carlsberg-Tetley brewery in Northampton has announced it is to offer its workers voluntary redundancy as part of a drive to cut costs.
The company says a national trend to drink flavoured alcoholic drinks and wine rather than beer is partly to blame. Most of its 500-strong workforce will be offered the chance to apply for the package over the next few weeks. However, a spokesman stressed the firm was committed to Northampton and was investing heavily in its operations in the town. He said more than £10m had been invested over the past year, with more planned. Carlsberg-Tetley has a brewery, office complex and distribution centre in Northampton. Workers who accept the redundancy package will receive a maximum of £30,000, depending on their salary and length of service.
