Resignation call in estate row
The Norris Green estate in Liverpool
Plans were drawn up to revamp the whole estate
Residents of an estate in Liverpool have condemned the city council for delaying £170m plans to revamp the area.

Now Labour opposition leaders are calling for the Lib-Dem executive housing member, Richard Kemp, to resign over the row.

Tenants on the Norris Green estate claim to have lived in squalor for years waiting for the plan to swing in to action.

They claim the council has now altered the plans because other schemes would be more financially lucrative.

Jack Mahon of the estate tenants' association
Jack Mahon: "All residents are angry"
The initial plans for the estate included installing an environmentally friendly drainage system and the creation of a village-type green.

One resident, Andy Poxon, told BBC North West Today he has not used the upstairs rooms of his house for three years.

He said: "There are cracks that go right round the walls and the ceiling in one room and there's damage in the others as well."

'Mistakes made'

Jack Mahon, of the estate tenants' association, said everyone is upset about the situation.

"We've all worked very hard in this community to get this plan," he said.

But Mr Kemp has resisted the calls for his resignation.

He did admit however, that mistakes were made when the plans for the estate were drawn up.
