Council house stand-off ends

A Sheffield woman and her four children have finally been evicted from their home following a two-day stand-off.

Dawn Rowding had refused to leave her council house in Homestead Close, Shiregreen, when officials arrived on Wednesday.

The family then barricaded themselves in their home refusing to come out.

Ms Rowding claimed she had been the victim of heavy-handed tactics by both the council and police.

Court deadline

Sheffield Council had served a court notice on Ms Rowding in October giving them authority to remove her from the house after a series of complaints from neighbours.

The family had failed to leave after being given a six-week deadline by officials.

But after further complaints the council, in conjunction with bailiffs and the police, decided to evict her before the court deadline.

Councillor Jan Wilson, leader of Sheffield City Council, said: "It's very sad it's come to this, though this was a last resort.

"We must demonstrate our resolve on issues such as this when our neighbourhoods are being harassed by inconsiderate individuals."
