Munnings' birthplace for sale
Mendham Mill is on the market for £1.2m
The birthplace of the Suffolk artist Sir Alfred Munnings has been put up for sale.
Mendham Mill was the inspiration for many of his pictures, particularly his earlier work, which sells for millions. Munnings, who is renowned for his equestrian paintings, was born at the mill in 1878.
In his autobiography he recalls harvest-time and the farmers bringing grain to the mill. The current owner, Carol Spenser, said: "He talks about looking out of the mill windows and watching the big trail of the horses and carts. "It was a very big day for the farmers." In 1938 the mill was sold for £1600 - the price of a Munnings painting at the time. The asking price for the home that inspired so much of his work is £1.2m.
