New homes on barracks site
More than 100 new homes will be built in Lincoln
Plans to build more than 100 homes on a disused barracks in Lincoln have been approved despite local objections.
Members of the city council's development control committee backed proposals for the land at Sobraon Barracks, on Burton Road, to be turned into a residential area. The development will include houses, apartments and recreations areas. The barracks were abandoned several years ago and have been plagued by vandalism and rubbish dumping. Lincoln City Council planning officer Phil Scrafton said: "There is a need to invest in the site and invest in the areas of open space which are fairly neglected at the moment." Some surrounding residents opposed the committee's decision, claiming the new development would be noisy and spoil their privacy.
